fishing report for January 25th at Nineoaks Fishery
Oakford near Aberaeron, Ceredigion, W.Wales, SA47 0RW
Results of a recent winter match on Sunday 25th January 2009.
Weather: damp at about 8:30am for 15minutes then fine all day, getting colder and
breezy from 3pm.
7 anglers fished, their catch results are as follows:-
Total Weight Caught 224lb 13oz, an average of 32lb per angler.
The first match of the Fish4Wales calendar. The draw was made at 9am with Ryan
drawing one of the ‘Flyers’ on the “Helicopter pad”, Aaron also drew a favoured peg
next to Ryan. Brian drew the Aerator another favoured peg. These three pegs were
earmarked for a good bag. Andy drew peg one on the point, Nick drew peg 5 on the
right hand green bank with Chris for company and Keith drew the ‘Fridge’ a peg in
the top left hand corner of the lake that gets little or no sun at this time of year
and hence called “the fridge.”
At the all in Ryan immediately went to work exploiting his peg and was soon into his
first carp then he had a steady run of carp for the next three hours when his bites
tailed off. Aaron caught roach and few carp early on before a quite spell but caught
consistently through the last two hours to push Ryan all the way to the whistle and
also pip Keith for second place by just 11oz. Brian caught silvers steadily all day
from the aerator at 14mtrs and also managed a few carp for 4th place with 36lb. Andy
took the honors for 5th place with a 12lb bag of roach while Nick was the poor
relation only able to find a single carp backed up by some good roach while he was
trying his hardest not to catch for a bag total of 8lb 14oz. Chris was also unable
to locate any carp finishing with 4lb 8oz. The suprise of the day was Keith catching
50lb 12oz from the fridge, not a fancied peg but one that the fish did.
The F4W crew will certainly be returning here for more matches and some pleasure
sessions during 2009.
Section Weight 160lb 11oz
Section Weight 64lb 2oz
Biggest Fish of the day was a 10lb 5oz Common carp caught by Keith Fellowes.
Following the very cold weather when the lakes were frozen over with
4″ of ice; Trout fishing continues to improve. Most anglers are catching Rainbows
and Blues about 4-5ft deep in the 2lb range with bigger fish occasionally.
Afternoons, with an overcast sky regularly produces the goods. Any easterly winds
certainly makes fishing hard. Small, wet flies, nymphs, montanas and the like are
regularly the consistent wet flies.
