Just a point of view but It makes sense to return larger bass 50cm + back to the water. They have reached spawning age by then and can keep the population going. 40cm fish will take years to reach spawning age and are much more likely to end up in a trawler net.

Keep it between 40 - 50 I say. :-)

I don't think Whiteacres have acted very responsible here - with all their money you'd think they would close the lakes than chance infecting other lakes across the UK!!

The EA amongst other agency's are currently devising EMP's (Eel Management Plans), which will come into force next year, along with a lisiting on CITES appendix b.

The main issue we have with Mr. Ramsey is the promotion of eating an endangered species, the people of the UK don't really eat that many elvers. most of those caught (licenced or otherwise) are exported. however the last thing the eels survival needs is an increase in their demand across the UK.

The largest business in the uk dealing with the extraction currently has a turnover in excess of £3m p.a. which as you can imagine is an awful lot of Eels.

Hopefully when the EMP's begin to come into force next year the decline of the Eel will begin to be reversed, but I'd agree it would be a simple starting point for the EA to reduce the number of netting licences issued and revise thier costs to make the business less profitable.

Good review, I bought a fishing bivvy the other day, it's well worth paying the extra as quality counts when your out fishing in bad weather.

Ive known Andrew for a few years now and have been out fishing together on quite a few occations,.To say he knows his stuff is an understatement I've been a course fisherman for 30 odd years now so know a few things about this and that but Andrew always seem to out fish me when ever we went out(LUCK I'D SAY HE WOULD SAY SKILL)
In all honesty a great bloke to go fishing with and if you ever needed to know any thing he's your man.
I'm an Essex boy but i'm sure i'll be going back to get another lesson or two from Andrew again down in Cornwall very soon.

Yes, a good spot for this is Porth Island or Newquay Headland by the old lifeboat slip. Another spot is called Stepper at Padstow - I'll be writing about this fishing mark shortly.

I only have a good catch rate with this method when its bright and sunny!
